Southend United Football Club, commonly known as Southend, is a professional football team based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. Founded in 1906, the club plays its home matches at Roots Hall, which has a capacity of about 12,000. Southend competes in the English Football League (EFL), having experienced various highs and lows throughout its history, including periods in the second tier of English football.
